As of my last update, there isn’t a specific GATE syllabus for “AR” (Architecture and Planning). GATE primarily covers subjects related to engineering and technology fields. However, for Architecture and Planning, you might want to refer to relevant subjects like Mathematics, Aptitude, and the syllabus provided by institutions offering architecture programs.

GATE AR Syllabus 2024 – GATE 2025 exam will be conduct by IIT, Roorkee on dates 1, 2 and 8, 9 February, 2025. Here we have provided latest Architecture and Planning syllabus & paper pattern for GATE 2024 aspirants.

Architecture and Planning (AR): New Pattern

The Paper contains General Aptitude (GA) section (15 Marks) as applicable for all papers of GATE 2022.

The Paper consists of two parts covering the syllabus: Part A (60 marks) and Part B (25 marks).

  • Part A is compulsory for all the candidates.
  • Part B contains two optional sections: Part B1 (Architecture) and Part B2 (Planning).

Candidates have to choose any one of the sections from Part B during the examination. No separate score and ranking will be provided based on selection of sections.

  • Section 4: Elements of the urban built environment – urban form, Concepts, and theories of urban design; Principles, tools, and techniques of urban design; Development controls– FAR, densities and building bye-laws Urban renewal conservation; Public spaces, character, spatial qualities and Sense of Place; historical public spaces and gardens; Landscape design; heritage conservation; Site planning.
  • Section 5: Planning process – Salient concepts, Concepts, and theories by trendsetting planners and designers; Urban sociology; Methods of non-spatial and spatial data; concepts of cities – Eco-City, Smart City; Development guidelines such as URDPFI;
  • Section 6: Affordable Housing; Residential densities; Housing – Housing typologies; Real estate valuation; Concepts, principles, and examples of neighborhood

  • Section B1.1: World History of Architecture: Byzantine, Egyptian, Gothic, Renaissance, Greco-Roman classical period, Baroque-Rococo, etc.; International styles, Deconstruction in architecture, etc.; Influence of Modern art and Design in Architecture; Works of renowned national and international architects, Indian vernacular and traditional Architecture
  • Section B1.2: Principles of Modular Coordination; Construction planning and equipment; Principles of the strength of materials; Design of structural elements with different materials; Alternative building materials; Elastic and Limit State design; Building systems and prefabrication of building elements; Building material characteristics and applications; Principles of Prestressing

      If you invest your precise time in finding E-books in these last 6-7 month of preparation then you are surely wasting your time.
