A newly recruited Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) through Civil Services Examination (CSE) will be responsible for maintaining law and order, averting and dealing with accidents, nabbing notorious criminals, and managing traffic. Apart from these normal duties, the officer is also responsible for checking drug trafficking, human trafficking, smuggling, maintaining border security, railway policing, allaying and preventing terrorism, and keeping a watch on cyber crimes.
An IPS officer is also eligible to serve the Central Government in various sectors like the Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force (CRPF), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) etc.
