 PSU Selection Procedure – (2022-2023) | GATE & Non-GATE  – The objective of the recruitment and selection procedures in the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) is to select the best suitable candidate for a particular post. Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like NTPC, SAIL, ONGC, PGCIL, DMRC, AAI, IOCL are the few popular companies (out of many) in India.

These companies provide attractive pay scale, job security, good work environment that makes PSUs jobs best suited for technical candidates. So not only students but also working professionals eagerly wait for PSU job notifications every year. We can classified PSUs in two categories on the basis of GATE score (requirement) as defined below :

(1) PSUs recruiting through GATE
(2) PSUs Not recruiting through GATE

Selection Procedure of PSU recruiting through GATE

Generally the recruitment and selection procedures followed in most of the PSUs which are recruiting through GATE score comprises of two stages :

(1) Shortlist candidates on the basis of GATE score
(2) Personal Interview (PI) and/or Group Discussion (GD)

PSUs in India can be categorised into four types based on parameters like listing in the Indian Stock Exchange, global presence, annual revenue, and income generated. Companies under different categories are given in the table below:

Generally the recruitment and selection procedures followed in most of the PSUs which are not recruiting through GATE comprises of two stages :
(1) Written examination
(2) Personal Interview (PI) and/or Group Discussion (GD)

Weightage of Different Stages in PSUs

Generally the weightage of different stages for selecting candidates in PSUs which are not recruiting through GATE is as defined below. Below provided criteria is for information purpose, weightage ratio of different stages may be different for different -different PSUs.

Written examination 70-85 %
Personal Interview 15-30 %
Group Discussion 0-5  %
Total 100 %

At the last a final list of selected candidates will be prepared on the basis of their written exam and GD/PI performance. Those candidates will be called for Medical examination and Document verification. Purpose of medical examination is to check a candidates physical suitability for a particular post and document verification is to check a candidates educational suitability. Those who clear medical examination as well as document verification process will be posted finally.
